Rated as one of the top ten treks in the world, the Kokoda in Papua New Guinea holds a significant place in WWII history and spans 96 km (60 miles) through rugged jungle and local villages. Upon arrival in Port Moresby, you connect with your private air charter to the starting point of the trek. |

This infamous track provides a constant backdrop of pristine rainforest, breathtaking views and a taste of life in local villages. The track stretches through some of the most rugged and wild jungle on earth. Trekking Kokoda is a soul searching trek across the Owen Stanley Range, traversing the incredible beauty of Papua New Guinea and transcending time. Visit the battlefields where young men died to save their country from invasion. Built over 200 years ago as a commuting route between villages, the track became the scene of bitter fighting between Australian and Japanese soldiers during World War II. Today battle sites are still evident throughout the jungle, marked by the weapon pits of the combatants; they remain remarkably well preserved - it’s as though the Australian soldiers who sheltered there had shouldered their packs and walked away only days ago. Many relics of the war can still be found - a testament to the ferocity of the fighting about which your guide will elaborate. This trek is a tremendous physical challenge. |
